Welcome

Exanthems

Learn to understand the presentation of common childhood exanthems, how to recognise the different types of rashes, and to understand the importance of clinical context in making a diagnosis.

Paediatric Skin Infections

Learn how to recognise the different patterns of herpes simplex virus and tinea, and the most appropriate treatment options, as well as how to investigate and treat superficial staphylococcal, streptococcal and other common skin infections.

Gastroenteritis

Understand the aetiology, learn how to differentiate between gastroenteritis and other common causes of vomiting and diarrhea. and assess the severity of dehydration and implement a management plan.

Bronchiolitis

Learn to understand the natural history of viral bronchiolitis, the indicators for hospital admission and principles of management, and the understand the role of antiobiotics, corticosteroids, beta-agonists, antiviral agents. and ipratropium.

Urinary Tract Infections

Learn to explain the epidemiology and risk factors for UTIs, arranging appropriate pathological collection and interpreting results, and use evidence-based assessment to minimise the risk of further infections.

Meningitis

Learn to understand the pathogenesis of bacterial meningitis, how to assess for signs and symptoms, and how to implement best current evidence-based treatment and prevention.

Bone and Joint Infections

Learn how to use clinical assessment to identify differing presentations of musculoskeletal infections, recognise red flags on history and examination, how to investigate, and develop evidence-based management strategies to implement appropriate antibiotic use.

Rheumatic Fever and its Complications

Learn how to identify the features of rheumatic fever, understand the natural history and adapt treatment to change the course of disease, and consider the impact on high risk populations and suggest changes to help improve outcomes.

Antibiotics and Resistance

Learn the concept of "age-related pathogens", understand the choice of antimicrobial agents for empiric therapy, the role of antimirobial resistance, the difference between predictable and changing resistance and interpret results, and be familiar with criteria and mechanisms for conversion from parental antiobiotics to oral.

Pneumonia

Learn to differentiate between viral and bacterial pneumonia, recognise common signs and challenges in diagnosis, consider the challenges of treatment in lower socio-economic and remote areas and the long-term sequelae of adequate treatment, and how to implement a management plan to maximise outcomes.
