Build your capacity to advocate for vulnerable children with our CPD course on advocacy and public health in child health, designed for primary care professionals. This course addresses critical issues affecting child wellbeing, including health disparities in disadvantaged and Indigenous communities, the impact of adverse childhood experiences, and the unique needs of children with developmental disabilities. You'll also explore early intervention pathways, navigating the NDIS, refugee health, child abuse prevention, and the rising challenges of climate change on child health. With a focus on injury prevention and reducing child mortality, this course empowers you to drive meaningful change at both clinical and community levels.
What will I learn?
Course learning outcomes:

Analyse the factors influencing child wellbeing, including health disparities among disadvantaged and Indigenous communities.

Coordinate the care of children requiring early intervention, access to the NDIS, and children with developmental disabilities, refugee backgrounds, and those at risk of abuse.

Advocate for and implement evidence-based strategies for injury prevention, child mortality reduction, and child abuse prevention at clinical and community levels.

What will I gain?
Access will be granted for 12 months to complete the course. A completion certification will be awarded for 10 hours to self-submit for CPD recognition.

Health Issues in Disadvantaged ChildrenLearn to consider the causes and distribution of poverty and disadvantage, determine the impact of social disadvantage on child health, and learn how to develop policies and utilise existing programs to improve child health and wellbeing. |
Adverse Childhood ExperiencesLearn the significance and impact of adverse childhood experiences and how to assess children at risk as well as advocate for early intervention to improve child health outcomes. |
Indigenous HealthUnderstand the current health status, determinants of health, and develop strategies for working with Aboriginal children and families to reduce inequalities in Australia. |
Developmental DisabilitiesLearn to understand the health implications of disability, the assessment process and aims of early diagnosis, and the ongoing health promotion and disease prevention in long term care. |
Early Intervention and NDISLearn current evidence supporting early intervention and how to determine if a child is eligible for NDIS support as well as provide evidence and assistance for an NDIS application. |
Impacts of Climate Change on Child HealthGain essential knowledge of planetary health, understand its clinical impact, and learn to practice sustainable healthcare. |
Refugee HealthLearn to develop a systemic approach to assessment of children and adolescents of a refugee background, as well as understand the important screening investigations required and formulate age-appropriate management plans for both infectious and non-infectious diseases. |
Child AbuseLearn the definitions and features of physical, emotional and sexual abuse and neglect, as well as understand when to report and how to report and support families. |
Child Mortality and Injury PreventionLearn the severities of childhood injury and mortality, as well as gain an awareness of health promotion and identifying injury prevention strategies. |
