Introduction

Mental Health Assessments in Children and Adolescents

Understand the purpose of a mental health assessment, recognise the range of mental health difficulties in children and adolescents within their psychosocial context, and conduct screening and assessment to develop a management plan.

Anxiety Disorders

Understand the types of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, how they differ from adult presentations, their assessment including differential diagnosis in a developmental context, and an overview of treatment approaches.

Mood Disorders and Suicide

Understand the core depressive symptoms, suicide and self-harm, psychosocial determinants of depression, and treatment approaches.

Medical Complications of Anorexia Nervosa

Understand the diagnostic criteria for anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders, recognise clinical signs of protein-calorie malnutrition, identify factors requiring inpatient care, and conduct medical assessments to evaluate malnutrition and recovery.

Child and Family Relationships

Learn to screen for common parent-child relationship difficulties, support families in improving outcomes, and provide basic psychoeducation to parents.

Behaviour Difficulties in School Age Children

Learn how to use screening tools for behavioral problems, educate parents on non-pharmacological approaches, and develop a multidisciplinary treatment plan with appropriate referrals.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Learn how to conduct a comprehensive ADHD assessment using screening tools, develop a multidisciplinary management plan, educate parents on behavioral strategies, understand treatment options, facilitate referrals, and tailor interventions to address psychosocial and financial impacts on the child and family.
