Enhance your practice and deepen your understanding of child development with our expert-led short course designed specifically for those working in primary care. This course covers essential topics such as paediatric examination techniques, effective strategies for engaging children during consultations, advice on common challenges like tantrums, and assessing developmental milestones including speech, motor and social skills. You'll also gain insight into disorders such as autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties, equipping you with the tools to provide better care, early diagnosis, and appropriate interventions for paediatric patients.
What will I learn?
Course learning outcomes:
- Apply a systematic approach to the assessment of a child with regards to developmental milestones
- Manage a child with a developmental concern or diagnosis appropriately including referral for additional review/services/support
- Communicate effectively with parents/caregivers regarding their child's development

What will I gain?
Access will be granted for 12 months to complete the course. A completion certification will be awarded for 10 hours to self-submit for CPD recognition.

Paediatric History and ExaminationLearn a systematic and comprehensive approach to taking a full paediatric history identifying red flags and how to create an appropriate management plan from examination findings. |
Engaging ChildrenLearn techniques for relieving anxiety and stress for children & families, and how play can be used to engage children and improve compliance. |
TantrumsLearn what constitutes normal toddler behaviour and how to deal with issues such as tantrums as well as disorders such as ADD & ADHD. |
Approach to the Child with Developmental ConcernsLearn how to use screening tools to identify developmental delay and then investigate and manage a child with developmental delay to optimise outcomes. |
AutismLearn the process of diagnosis for ASD as well as the psychosocial impact on children and families of a diagnosis. |
Speech and Communication ProblemsLearn about typical speech & language development and how to assess and identify signs of, and manage, delayed development. |
Hearing Loss and DeafnessLearn the importance of universal newborn hearing screening, the causes and management of permanent childhood hearing loss and how to implement an appropriate management plan. |
ADHDLearn how to identify features of ADHD, and create a multidisciplinary management plan including pharmacological optionsand behavioural strategies. |
Learning DifficultiesLearn about common learning difficulties in children, and how to assess and provide appropriate intervention. |
Early intervention and NDISLearn current evidence supporting early intervention and how to determine if a child is eligible for NDIS support as well as provide evidence and assistance for an NDIS application. |
